The next and seventh volume of the Roman Sky series will be Empire’s Frost. Cillian is about to have his promotion to vicarius confirmed by Emperor Justinian. A vicarius is the preparatory rank for becoming a tribune and commanding a cohort. The year is Anno Augusti 522, which is equivalent to AD 536 in our timeline. And in both timelines this is the year when the northern hemisphere becomes dark, dry, and cold, a climatic catastrophe that will persist for years. Thus, the title for this volume reflects that event. But other events in Cillian’s life will claim his attention, both involving the eastern region of the Gothic Kingdom, north of the Caucasus Mountains. And so, without giving away too much more of the story, here is its map. Some of the ancient place names are not much different from those in our timeline and current time. I hope to have this volume published by the summer of 2026.
